I think Radiohead is an incredibly mediocre band that is only as big as they are because they get their cocks sucked by critics & audiences who fall for their shtick. To me, so much of their music comes off like it's trying to be deep & intellectual, tell something, but to me at least most of the time it just feels forced and often just lacks any life to it. One of the biggest examples of this is the album OK Computer which I feel tries to be profound but is bogged down by Yorke's mumbly singing and overdramatic delivery. I feel like Radiohead doesn't understand or doesn't want to understand that music can be good & emotionally vulnerable without needing to resort to melodrama and pretentious wankery. Part of the reason why bands like the Beatles were so successful was because they managed to do just that, make captivating and emotional songs while not needing to resort to purposefully making their music sound depressing and boring. That's the main problem with Radiohead, they're fucking boring. Unfortunately so many people mistake being boring as being somehow more intellectually concious, more mysterious. And it doesn't help that a lot of their fans will attack anyone who prefers simpler or more straightforward song structures as somehow less intelligent or "not understanding" the point of their music. That's not to say I think every Radiohead song is bad, they have plenty of decent songs, some even great. But the fact of the matter is that I feel they are vastly overvalued as somehow reinventing the wheel and somehow enlightening the masses with their genius songwriting and experimentation, when often it just feels extremely formulaic & forced. Many of their songs follow the exact same formula & shtick, even if it is functionally stylistically different, I often find it hard to really pick apart something that I find interesting between their songs.
